An EMDR Intensive Therapy Session is a focused, extended therapy session using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy. Sessions last anywhere from a few hours to several days in order to accelerate the healing process. During these sessions, we will focus on resolving a specific issue or incident. You will be able to experience the benefits of months of therapy within one day. This approach is ideal for people dealing with trauma, anxiety or stressful events.
Benefits of EMDR Intensives
Accelerated Progress — Condense months of therapy into a single day
Focused Healing — Target specific events, symptoms, or belief systems
Flexible Scheduling — Ideal for people with busy or unpredictable schedules
Adjunctive Support — Great supplement to ongoing weekly therapy
Efficient Results — A 3-hour intensive can equal 5 standard sessions

One Hour intake/preparation session approximately 1 week prior to our session – This session will focus on clarify what your intensive therapy session will look like. We will go through standard intake questions about you past and present-day. We will then explore the beliefs and memories that are leading to the disturbance you are experiencing. We will clarify which targets to focus on during the intensive therapy session. These ‘targets’ may be memories, present day situations or future events that you are anticipating.
The Full-Day EMDR Intensive therapy session:
Morning:
Arrive and Get Settled - 15-30 minutes settling in and getting ready for the work ahead
EMDR Processing – 90 minutes - We’ll use bilateral stimulation in the form of tapping, handheld tappers or eye movements in order help the ‘targets” to be reprocessed in a way that more adaptive and less distressing. It tends to take anywhere from 45-90 minutes to completely reprocess a target. We will take breaks, hydrate, and check in as needed.
60 Minute Break:
(Only for Full-Day Session) - A full hour to eat lunch, move your body and mentally decompress.
Afternoon:
EMDR Processing – 100-150 minutes
Closure - 30 minutes – We’ll close the session with grounding, reflection and whatever you need to transition back to into your routine.
One Hour Post-Intensive Session – This follow-up session will be approximately one week after your intensive therapy session. We will review your symptoms and discuss the changes you are noticing, and what symptoms are lingering. Recommendations for follow-up treatment will be given if needed.
Included - EMDR Therapy Workbook – to enhance your EMDR therapy experience.
